April 2007 Archives
I caught the tail-end of an advertisement for "Amazing Log Homes" -- a new home special on HGTV about log homes.

I, for one, will definitely be watching!
You may recall that Bass Pro Shop recently started selling Log Cabins in their catalog and online. Bass Pro Shop partnered with Barna Log Homes to market a line of 7 different log cabins ranging from 173 to 1309 square feet.
But they were not the first major outdoor retailer to do so. Two years ago, The Orvis Company began selling log cabins to its customers via a partnership with Rocky Mountain Log Homes.
Orvis is a leading outdoor gear and clothing company.
Who knew?...
The world's first RV (built in 1914) was actually made from a single redwood tree!
As a result, they called the vehicle "the Travel Log".

Blemishes and nail holes in wood trim and log walls are two things that most log home owners are going to want to "hide" at some point -- especially if you're trying to sell your log cabin.
This question actually came to me via e-mail today. Melissa wrote:
I am going to be selling my log home soon and of course I want it to look nice, however I have holes in the walls from moving towel racks etc and I am wondering what is the best way to fill these in so it blends best with the wall?"
The first thing that came to my mind was wood putty, but I have to admit... I wasn't sure if there was something "better" that log home owners (or builders) themselves might recommend.
So I did some research, and here's what I found...
In our current home, the hot water heater is located in the garage.
As a result, hot water has to travel UP one-and-a-half floors and make a lot of turns & twists in the process of reaching both of our main bathrooms.
This is not the ideal scenario because:
#1 It takes a long time for the water to turn hot in both, our master bathroom and our guest bathroom -- which are located upstairs.
#2 The water pressure is quite weak in the upstairs bathrooms. This is especially noticeable in the master bathroom shower (which is farthest from the water heater).
Who'd a thunk it?
Bass Pro Shops has partnered with Barna Log Homes to sell log cabins in their Fall catalog!
That's right, there are 7 different log cabins that make up the Barna Log Homes RedHead line of custom log cabins which will be featured in Bass Pro Shops' fall catalog.

Here is yet another "cool log cabin" outdoor accessory...
