Personal Highs Matched With Regional Lows

lynnette-showing-building-permit.jpgPerhaps the first 'official' sign that construction is about to take place on our new log home site: the posting of the Building Permit!

Unfortunately, this day in Williamson County, Tennessee was filled with just as many highs as lows -- emotionally speaking.

You see, last night we had some very destructive storms (including an EF2 Tornado) pass through the Leipers Fork area -- near where we are building our log home.

Williamson County TN Building Permits & Fees: What You Need To Know

jim-with-building-permit.jpgWooo hooo... We got our Building Permit today! Finally.

Here's the funny part. (Well, not funny ha-ha.)

The cost of our Building Permit was $9,177! Jim about had to change his drawers when they called to say our permit was ready to pick up.

To break it down...

The Building Permit itself cost us $1,240
The Plumbing Permit cost us $75
The Mechanical Permit cost us $28

And the worst part:

The Privilege Tax amounted to $7,834

Talk about a bittersweet moment!!!

Abraham Lincoln's Log Cabin And Farm Land For Sale

abraham-lincoln-boyhood-log-cabin.jpgAbraham Lincoln's farm land is up for sale to raise money for a new log cabin and visitor's center.

Small parcels of the 4-acre tract will be sold to the general public.

We're talking really small... something like 1-inch square pieces. These are souvenir land deeds only. While they are not sure exactly how many parcels of land will eventually be sold, there are more than 6 million square inches in an acre -- in case you were wondering.

It will include a deed that can be recorded with the idea that it's to have something you can frame, but it will be more to have the land owned 'by everybody' and help ensure its preservation. Source

The monies raised will be used to restore the log cabin that is located on the property, and to also build a visitors' center and walkway with signs detailing Abraham Lincoln's history.

Who's Nashville Log Home Is That On CMT's 'Gone Country'?

barbara-mandrell-log-home-nashville.jpgIf you caught the first episode of Gone Country last night (it's a new reality TV series on CMT that follows 7 celebrities as they try to make their break in the Country music industry), then you may be wondering whose log home that is and where it's located.

It's definitely a looker...

Jim and I were at the final taping of Gone Country back in October, and we've wondered ever since which house the celebs stayed in while the filming was taking place in Nashville.

But it wasn't until we saw the first show on CMT last night that we noticed the big "JR" on the front door handles to this mansion. Of course, that stands for John Rich. So it must be his house... Right?

Not so fast. As it turns out, there's an interesting story to this particular log home that's located in Nashville, Tennessee.

Here's the scoop...
