After a few short years in banking and then the real estate industry, I opened a store called "My House - Southwest Style" -- which I operated in Murfreesboro, TN for 6 years.
Many of my customers came from states away, because my products were so hard to find. I offered rustic pine furniture from Mexico and other areas. All of the pieces worked great in Southwestern style homes, log homes and lodges, western decor, and even contemporary homes. Along with the rustic pine, I also had pottery and a huge variety of home decor items that would blend with whatever style you may have.
I was not just the owner, I was also the delivery girl, designer, accountant, and janitor. Whatever needed to be done was done by me. I knew every customer and what style they liked. If they had purchased something for delivery, it was delivered by me -- so I knew their home and could help with future purchases, decorating ideas, etc.
From there, I went on to work with people who were interested in building log homes. So now I just focus more on the structure of the home versus the interior. Of course, I am always thinking of furnishing the log home too, so "wide doors" is a frequent suggestion on floorplans.
I truly enjoy helping people plan, design and decorate their log homes -- inside and out!
